Bar Code Hardware - Scanners and Printers

Warrior has been helping companies get their operations and systems matched for bar code scanning for several years. And we are ready to help your business, too.

Answer the questions below, and then contact a Warrior professional who will guide you through the rest of the process.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT BAR CODE SCANNER

As with most projects, having the right tools to do the job makes the work easier and in most cases the work gets done quickly, accurately. Getting the right scanner to solve your problem is more important than cost, brand, or hype. What we need to know:

  • What kinds of items are being scanned?
  • What is the size, weight, and proximity of the item in relationship to the person or machine doing the scanning?
  • How fast does the scanner have to capture the bar code?
  • What kinds of codes need to be read...linear, or complex such as 2D or Composite Codes?
  • Are the bar codes large or small, high-density or low density.
  • Do you receive a lot of damaged bar codes that a scanner would have to interpret?
  • What is the environment...hot, humid, wide temperature changes?
  • How much abuse will the scanner be subjected to?
  • Will the operator be wearing gloves, must their hands be free?
  • What existing equipment do you have?
  • Will the scanner interface with existing equipment?

CHOOSING THE RIGHT BAR CODE PRINTER

Creating a good bar code and choosing a good printer is basic to solving many problems.

What we need to know:

  • What problem are you trying to solve?
  • What is the purpose of the bar code...shipping, tracking, inventory, checkout?
  • What is the size of the bar code? Will it change based on item?
  • What data needs to be stored in the code?
  • What code are you going to use...Code 39, Code 128, 2 of 5, PDF417 or a host of others?
  • Are the bar codes large or small, high-density or low density.
  • How many labels do you print in a run?
  • What is the environment...dirty, oily, wide temperature changes?
  • Will the labels be used primarily for in-house, national or global?
  • How much abuse will the printer be subjected to?
  • What existing equipment do you have?
  • Will the printer interface with existing equipment?
